World language educators provide unique opportunities for students to explore diverse perspectives, develop deeper intercultural understandings, and use communication as a vehicle to promote connection and unity. As a profession, we strive for respectful practices that celebrate the value of all people, promote a rich array of language offerings, demonstrate acceptance of various approaches to teaching derived from evidence-based research, and partnerships with diverse communities. We aren’t without our faults though and must dedicate our energy and resources to affirming the importance of diversity and inclusive practices within the language education community. While we represent many languages and cultures, our coming together as a unified body means we can have a stronger impact in the important work of making language learning open and accessible to all.
